Our first week of the trip was spent in Bangkok and Chiangmai. In Bangkok we visited the Wat Pho temple and the grand palace, the architecture at these sites was a huge contrast to the more westernised style of the rest of the city.

It can be really fun to have your birthday in a different country. The celebrations nearly always differ to home and since we’ve been in Siem Reap for three weeks now there are plenty of people we know that can join in on the celebrations!
Below are some tips from travelling that I’d like to pass on if you’re thinking of backpacking, especially in South East Asia. These suggestions are from my own experiences and the volunteers on this trail. Everyone is different and not all of these will apply but I hope they might be useful!
If someone had told me to go diving three days ago, I would have said no for certain. I can't swim and I hate the idea of being surrounded by fishes.
During the South East Asia Trail, my favourite parts were the day trips. For me they were the most memorable experiences and were the most fun too. During our stay in Chiang Mai, known as the rose of the north for its picturesque scenery, we took part in an excursion to an elephant sanctuary.
