Friendly  Fijians

Bula Vinaka

"How is your Fijian?" I was asked in the first days after landing here. "Pretty basic, I guess. I onky know 'bula' and 'vinaka'." I answered a bit skeptical. "That's great, it's probably all you really need" came the reassurance from the people I was with.

Healthcare Volunteering on Beqa 

I came to Fiji as a Healthcare volunteer. As a nursing student I really wanted the opportunity to provide hands on care for individuals in need. I was stationed at Ravi Ravi, a village on Beqa (45 minutes boat ride from Suva).

Food On Camp 

Rice and beans it said. Lies, pure lies. I was reading the field brief and expecting the worst when it came to food. It kept saying we would just eat rice and beans and that the food would be bland, but the truth is, we have been eating like kings and queens.
