With short days, dark mornings and cold temperatures, our only way to escape is to go somewhere warm over the holidays. Wouldn’t it be great if we could just sleep until spring? Ah, if only hibernation was for humans!

An apocalyptic statement, often attributed to Albert Einstein, claims that if the bees disappeared, ‘man would only have four years of life left’. You’d think a premonition this dire would spark immediate action, but despite the devastation of bee populations over the last decade, it seems like the world could care less. So is Einstein right? And if so, what can we do about it?
You might have mixed feelings when you think about bees. Tasty honey probably comes to mind, but along with painful stings and unwelcome additions to summer picnics. Perhaps you think that fewer bees wouldn’t be such a bad thing? But bees are important pollinators that play a vital role in all of our lives.
