What’s your best travel experience?

What do you do when you’ve just graduated from University, your birthday is coming up and you’ve got a couple weeks to kill, but not a lot of money? There’s really only one solution: a road trip to Austria!

It’s not the furthest place I’ve travelled, or the most exotic, but the stunning mountain scenery, beautiful lakes and travelling with a close group of friends made this one of my favourite travel experiences.

If you’ve ever watched Goldeneye you’ll know what the highlight of my trip was. In James Bond style I jumped off the Verzasca Dam in Switzerland and I’m not going to lie – I was absolutely terrified! It’s a really weird experience to make your body do something that feels so unnatural, like hurling it 220 metres towards the ground! But it was awesome!

What did you take?

Travelling by car, I was given the luxury of being able to take more than if I was carrying a backpack. However, my essentials would include a good pair of shoes, especially if you’re the outdoors type. Also, insect repellent as I can never leave bites alone and they irritate the hell out of me! An mp3 player or in my case a selection of mix CDs for the long car journeys, which put everyone in a good mood and now when I hear those songs they take me back and make me happy.

What do you wish you had taken?

A book or something to relax with as it’s nice to have down time too especially on an active holiday.

Which Frontier project would you like to visit?

I’ve never been to South or Central America so the Costa Rica Big Cats, Primates and Turtle Conservation is a project that I’ve been eyeing up. I would love to learn a new language too and it would be great for improving my very basic Spanish.

What would you take there?

I would take a first aid kit; when backpacking in Thailand, I got a pretty nasty infection from a cut that could have been easily avoided with a bit of care. I would also take a few disposable cameras with me on adventures where I wouldn’t risk bringing my fancy camera, so I could still capture the moments.
